The Marble City Physiotherapy clinic was set up in 2003 and has been providing excellence in care to patients in the Kilkenny area since. The principal Physiotherapists are Martin Phelan and Mia Phelan.
Martin Phelan
Martin initially completed a degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Limerick before qualifying as a chartered physiotherapist from the University of Ulster at Jordanstown in 2001. Following a number of years working in the area of musculoskeletal medicine in both the HSE and private practice he completed his masters in Manual Therapy from the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
Martin specialises in the treatment of back and neck problems, lower limb injuries and rehabilitation and sports injuries.
Mia Phelan
Mia has over 10 years experience working as a chartered physiotherapist in musculoskeletal medicine. She graduated from Trinity College and later completed a MSc in manipulative physiotherapy at the University of Queensland, Australia in 2001.
Mia is a registered acupuncturist and Pilates instructor and has a special interest in women’s health.
Jenny Wallace
Jenny graduated from the University of Manchester in 1998. She began her career in St. Luke’s Hospital and Kilcreene Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny, where she gained a broad experience in the hospital setting and later became Senior Physiotherapist in Orthopaedics and Outpatients. In 2003, she commenced a lecturing post in the Institute of Technology, Carlow, where she is now Course Director of the BSc. (Hons) Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation. In 2007, Jenny received a Masters degree in Sports Physiotherapy from University College Dublin. She also joined Marble City Physiotherapy Clinic part-time in 2007.
Her areas of special interest are Sports and Spinal Injuries, Stability Retraining, Dry Needling and Acupuncture, Lower Limb Biomechanics/orthotics assessment and Pelvic Girdle Pain.
Caroline O’Connell
Caroline graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 and is currently working towards a PhD in the area of stroke rehabilitation, involving people with stroke from all over the country. In January 2007, Caroline changed focus to musculoskeletal physiotherapy and commenced working in private practice in Limerick and Clonmel. In these clinics she has worked widely with both chronic conditions such as back and neck pain, and acute sporting injuries, in particular with rugby and athletics.
Her areas of special interest are Neurological Rehabilitation – Stroke, Parkinsons, MS; Spinal Injuries, Sports Injuries, Biomechanical Assessment and Orthotics.
Kevin Curran
Kevin graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 with a degree in physiotherapy. He is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). His career started in St. Lukes Hospital Kilkenny where he continues to work today. Kevin also has experience from working in private practice clinics since 2004. He managed his own after hours clinic in Roscrea from 2005 – 2006. Following this he transferred to Marble City Physiotherapy where he continues to work.
Kevin has completed numerous post graduate courses, mainly in the area of musculoskeletal, and obtained a certificate in spinal manual therapy in 2008.
His main areas of interest are musculoskeletal, sports injuries and exercise prescription. He has been team physiotherapist for a number of local hurling teams and currently works with the Clara senior hurling team.
All of our Physiotherapists have a university degree in Physiotherapy, and most have post-graduate education and certification in manipulative therapy and treatment of sports injuries.
Our Physiotherapists constantly update their skills through continuing education courses in order to provide the best possible treatment for their clients.
